An Iterative Method for Producing Equilibrated Symmetric ThreeArm Star Polymer Melts in Molecular Dynamics
نویسنده
چکیده
Melts of symmetric three-arm stars are generated using a novel iterative method. In this method, an equilibrated lowmolecular weight configuration is used to generate progressively higher molecular weights by affine scaling and equilibration. At each stage in the progression, the synthetically lowered entanglement density allows bypassing of the exponentially large relaxation times of branched polymers. The quality of equilibration was assessed by measuring the mean dimensions, distribution of dimensions, and internal length scales of the polymers. The total time required to generate the progression of equilibrated configurations was seen to scale as the Rouse time of the highest molecular weight.

A topology preserving method for generating equilibrated polymer melts in computer simulations.
A new method for generating equilibrated configurations of polymer melts is presented. In this method, the molecular weight of an equilibrated melt of polymers is successively doubled by affinely scaling the simulation box and adding beads along the contour of the chains. At each stage of molecular weight doubling, compressive deformations are produced on all length scales, while the random wal...
متن کاملInfluence of polymer architectures on diffusion in unentangled polymer melts.
Recent simulations have indicated that the thermodynamic properties and the glassy dynamics of polymer melts are strongly influenced by the average molecular shape, as quantified by the radius of gyration tensor of the polymer molecules, and that the average molecular shape can be tuned by varying the molecular topology (e.g., ring, star, linear chain, etc.). In the present work, we investigate...
متن کاملStatic and dynamic properties of large polymer melts in equilibrium.
We present a detailed study of the static and dynamic behaviors of long semiflexible polymer chains in a melt. Starting from previously obtained fully equilibrated high molecular weight polymer melts [G. Zhang et al., ACS Macro Lett. 3, 198 (2014)], we investigate their static and dynamic scaling behaviors as predicted by theory. We find that for semiflexible chains in a melt, results of the me...
متن کاملA comparative study of coarse-graining methods for polymeric fluids: Mori-Zwanzig vs. iterative Boltzmann inversion vs. stochastic parametric optimization.
We construct effective coarse-grained (CG) models for polymeric fluids by employing two coarse-graining strategies. The first one is a forward-coarse-graining procedure by the Mori-Zwanzig (MZ) projection while the other one applies a reverse-coarse-graining procedure, such as the iterative Boltzmann inversion (IBI) and the stochastic parametric optimization (SPO). More specifically, we perform...
متن کاملA comparison of neutron scattering studies and computer simulations of polymer melts
Neutron scattering and computer simulations are powerful tools for studying structural and dynamical properties of condensed matter systems in general and of polymer melts in particular. When neutron scattering studies and quantitative atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of the same material are combined, synergy between the methods can result in exciting new insights into polymer melts no...
